Knights hand Corsairs their first losses in GVC doubleheader

The College of the Redwoods baseball team suffered its first losses of the season on Saturday, dropping both ends of a doubleheader at Shasta.

After an 8-0 start, which included a 5-1 win over Shasta to open the series on Friday and was the program’s best start to a season since 1988, the Corsairs gave up 28 runs in the doubleheader.

The Knights took game one 14-4 and followed that with a 14-5 win in game two.

CR committed eight errors on the day, including six in game two.

The CR bats came to play in the opener and accounted for 11 hits in the loss, including a solo home run by Cam Witte, who finished 2-for-3.

Infielder Soloman Searle led the way at the plate and was 3-for-3 with two runs, while Gavyn Dansby and Blake Browning each had two hits, including a pair of RBIs by Dansby and a double by Browning.

Former Eureka Loggers Parker Rodgers and Richard Reeves each also had a base hit.

The Corsairs used four pitchers in the loss.

CR added eight hits in game two, including another two by the consistent Dansby.

Another former Eureka Logger also had a good day, with Seth Grammer finishing 2-for-3 with a run.

Reeves and Rodgers each added another hit, including a double by Reeves, while Oscar Rudman added a double and two RBIs.

The home team scored six runs in the bottom of the first to take the lead and added three more in the third.

The Corsairs, who are 8-2 on the season and 1-2 in the Golden Valley Conference, will try to bounce back when they travel to Lassen this week, with a single game on Friday and a doubleheader on Saturday.
