It was another successful weekend for the Northern Humboldt Steelheads 11Us as they got the fall off to an impressive start.
The young Steelheads traveled to Medford to compete in the Auntie Anne’s Bash to School Baseball Tournament and took first place in their division.
The Steelheads overcame a slow start on their way to the championship, with several players stepping up.
After opening the tournament with a 9-9 tie in a matchup against the Junior Panthers, the Steelheads won three straight games.
They closed out the opening day with a victory over the Gas House to secure the No. 2 seed for the knockout stages.
On Sunday, the Steelheads defeated the Junior Panthers in four innings to advance to the championship game, where they beat the Tornados 11-5.
Taylor Shrewsberry, Brylon Smith, Mason Webster and Blake Sample all played well on the mound over the two days and helped set the tone for their defense.
Lucas Lopez also was instrumental in the championship and led the way at the plate.
Shrewsberry, Smith, Webster and Sample each also played well at the plate and finished with multiple base hits, as did teammates Colton McCullough, Jayce Daniels, Dominic-Styles Brown, Lucas Ball, and Colt Presler.
The young Steelheads will try to keep their fast start to the fall season going when they travel back to Medford to compete at the Fall Classic tournament on Sept. 30th.
