Wyatt Simoni and the Crusaders are showing no signs of slowing down and will try to keep their impressive start to the new football season going this weekend when they host Arcata at Crusader Field.
Both teams are coming off big wins this past weekend, with St. Bernard’s winning 38-14 at Biggs and Arcata winning 50-0 against Hoopa.
Simoni, who is setting a blistering pace through the first three games of the season, dominated once again on both sides of the ball.
The senior running back had almost 250 yards of offense, finishing with 146 yards rushing and two touchdowns on 22 carries and adding 98 yards and another TD on three receptions.
On defense, he caused problems for the Biggs offense all game and had a sack and nine tackles.
The Crusaders’ two young QBs also continued to impress while splitting time.
Freshman Trenten Hagler completed 9 of 13 passes for 175 yards and two TDs, while sophomore Luke Brunton completed 7 of 11 passes for 60 yards and a TD.
Another sophomore, Tyler Hinrichs, also impressed and had two catches for 42 yards and a TD, while also nailing all five of his PATs and a 20-yard field goal to give SB some consistent kicking.
Defensively, Simoni wasn’t the only St. Bernard’s player to make an impact in the win.
Linebackers Ethan Hagler and Lawrence Renner finished with 11 and nine tackles, respectively.
The Crusaders D also came away with three interceptions, one each by Michael Manzi, Isaiah Wolfe and Lane Ford.
The game against Arcata kicks off at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
