By Ray Hamill — The Humboldt Crabs scored seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on the way to a comfortable 16-3 win over TKB Baseball at the Arcata Ball Park on Saturday afternoon.

The victory was the fourth straight for the Crabs, who also defeated the Chico Nuts 8-2 on Friday night, as they improved to 4-2 on the season.

The Crabs scored four runs in the first inning on Saturday and never appeared in danger of losing this one.

Griffin Meyer continued his impressive start to the summer and led the way at the plate, finishing 3-for-4 with two doubles, four RBIs and three runs.

Colby Lunsford, Billy Ham and Kawana Soares each added a pair of hits in the win, as eight different Crabs combined for 13 hits.

Soares had a triple, while Luke Reece also had a double for the home team.

Former McKinleyville Panther Cameron Saso pitched six innings for the win on the mound, giving up two earned runs on nine hits and two walks and also striking out three.

Former St. Bernard’s Crusader Garrison Finck threw one hitless inning in relief, before Gabe Tanner came in to close out the game, striking out four in two hitless innings.

A pair of former Eureka Loggers started for TKB baseball, Parker Rodgers at catcher and Keenan Morris at shortstop.

Morris was 1-for-5, while Rodgers was 0-for-4 with a walk and a run.

The two teams will close out a two-game weekend series on Sunday, with first pitch set for 12:30 p.m.

Another former H-DNL pitcher had a big performance in Friday’s game against the Nuts.

St. Bernard’s graduate Caleb Ruiz pitched six scoreless innings for the win, allowing two hits and three walks and striking out 12.

Peyton Miller led the offense and was 3-for-4 with a double and two runs, while Reece, Myer and Michael McKernan each had two hits, including a double and three RBIs by the in-form Reece.

After Sunday’s game, the Crabs will travel to Medford for a two-game midweek series against the Rogues.
