McKinleyville’s Ingrid Monaghan and Del Norte’s Jaylee Keeling enjoyed big days in the second round of H-DNL girls golf at Baywood on Monday.
Monaghan continued her impressive start to league play with her second win in two rounds, following her victory at Benbow in the opening round last week.
The Panthers standout shot a 92 to win by four strokes and remain in the lead for the season championship.
Keeling had the second best round of the day and was the only girl to come close to Monaghan.
The Del Norte junior shot a 96, which was seven strokes better than the third best score of the day.
It was also a good day for the Arcata Tigers, who took the team win for the second straight week.
The Tigers showcased their team depth with six of the next seven best scores.
Remarkably after just two rounds, the Arcata girls lead the field by 69 strokes and look like they will be tough to top this year.
On Monday, they posted a score of 441, which was 40 strokes better than second-placed McKinleyville (481).
Del Norte (483), Eureka (524) and Fortuna (555) rounded out the top five teams on the day.
Arcata’s Quetzal Heacock had the third best individual round of the day after carding a 103, followed by teammates Hailey Pepper (107) in fourth and Sabrina Macdonald (113) in fifth.
Monaghan’s McKinleyville teammate Ansley Bartoo shot a 116 to place sixth on the day, with Arcata’s Stella Mielke (118) in seventh and Arcata’s Sophia Spetzler and Shayla Hoffman tying for eighth with rounds of 122.
Fortuna’s Alexa McCall and Eureka’s Daphne Log tied for 10th with rounds of 123.
The league golfers head to Fortuna’s Redwood Empire Golf and Country Club for round three of league play on Monday.
