By Ray Hamill — College of the Redwoods football is headed in the right direction.
A third straight win over the weekend sees CR move up three spots in this week’s JC Athletic Bureau / CCCFCA Coaches Poll.
The local community college program is now No. 18 in the state.
On Saturday afternoon, Redwoods won 37-34 in double overtime at Sacramento City College and improved to 3-0.
Three of CR’s five National NorCal Conference rivals also feature in this week’s top 25, led by No. 3 Diablo Valley, which moved up five spots after a 31-24 weekend win at No. 8 Modesto and also received two votes for top spot.
Butte dropped five spots in the rankings to No. 9 after a 10-7 loss at No. 4 San Mateo, while Sierra moves up two spots to No. 14 after a big 57-17 win over San Jose State.
CR’s other two conference rivals — Laney (1-2) and American River (0-3) — are just outside the top 25.
CR will be back on the North Coast this weekend, hosting Foothill at the Redwood Bowl on Saturday afternoon at 1.
Foothill (1-2) got its first win of the season over the weekend, beating Reedley 48-22.
