By Ray Hamill — The Northern Humboldt Giants will hold tryouts for the upcoming American Legion season this weekend at Arcata High School.

The Giants are one of three local American Legion baseball clubs and will open the 2023 summer season next Wednesday against the Humboldt Eagles in Eureka.

The Giants will field one 17U team with Troy Ghisetti serving as the team’s head coach once again this year.

Tryouts will take place on the new Arcata’s High baseball field at noon on both Saturday and Sunday.

The Giants will compete at several tournaments this summer, including out-of-area trips for the Sutter, Ashland and Reno tournaments.

They will also host their own annual tournament in late June, as well as making the short trek down the 101 to compete at the Eagles tournament from July 6 -9.

The Humboldt Eagles and Southern Humboldt 76ers will both also field 17U teams this summer.

The Giants are the reigning District champions.

The 2023 District tournament will take place in mid July.
