Humboldt Eagles get set for a busy week of tournament play

Ray Hamill/HumboldtSports.com – The Humboldt Eagles 17Us will host their annual tournament this week, along with the 19Us.

The Humboldt Eagles got a busy few days under way with an 8-2 win for their 19Us over Portland Black at Bomber Field in Eureka on Wednesday night.

Ethan Pesch pitched a gem for the victory on the mound, allowing just one run in five innings, while striking out seven and walking none.

Joey Quen and Matt Letter each threw one inning in relief.

At the plate, Jared Dixon continued to impress and finished 2-for-3 with two runs; Cole Ayala was 2-for-3 with two RBIs; and Mason Nichols was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

The Eagles, who improved to 19-8-1, will now turn their attention to their annual summer tournament, which begins on Thursday.

The 12-team tournament will feature both 19U and 17U brackets.

The 19Us play twice at Bomber Field on Thursday, matching up against Portland Red at noon and playing the NorCal Nationals at 7:30 p.m.

The four-day tournament will feature 34 games in both brackets combined.

The 17U bracket includes the Eagles, Northern Humboldt Giants, Northern Humboldt Steelheads and the Southern Humboldt 76ers.
