Local fans at the District 26 Little League tournament will be treated to a rematch of Saturday’s instant classic between Redwood Empire and McKinleyville when the two clubs face off a second time in the championship round on Wednesday evening.

The 12-year-old all-stars played a thriller on Saturday, with the Redwood Empire players rallying from an early deficit and sneaking a 2-1 win on a hit-by-pitch walk-off with the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth.

The Mack All-Stars set up the rematch with an 8-4 win over Eel River on Tuesday, in what was another exciting game.

Eel River opened up a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the third, but the Mack bats responded immediately in the fourth.

Jake Brunner got the rally started with an RBI single, before teammate Tate Saso hit a huge ground rule double to score two runs to tie the game.

McKinleyville would pull away late to secure a third straight elimination game victory.

Redwood Empire’s Jackson Sharp and Kade Pinochi combined to pitch a perfect game in a 12-0 win over Eel River on Monday, as the RELL All-Stars improved to 3-0 in tournament play.

McKinleyville’s only tournament loss came against RELL.

Wednesday’s game is set for 5:30 p.m. at the Redwood Fields in Cutten.
