Senior Savannah Colegrove pitched a two-hitter and got plenty of support from a balanced offense, as the Hoopa Warriors comfortably advanced in the North Coast Section Division-5 softball playoffs on Friday with an 11-1 win over St. Bernard’s in five innings.
Colegrove was dominant in the circle once again for the No. 1 seeded Warriors, finishing with five strikeouts and not allowing any walks.
The victory sets up a semifinal showdown against No. 4 Head Royce on Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m. in Hoopa after the Jayhawks defeated Credo 2-0 in their quarterfinal.
“They definitely played really well,” Hoopa head coach Ryan Colegrove said of her players. “We hit the ball hard when we needed to, and when we got on base we didn’t leave too many on.”
The pitching also was key.
“Savannah pitched really well today,” the head coach said. “They had a hard time making contact with the ball.”
The senior pitcher got plenty of help from a balanced offense, with nine different players combining for 14 hits, including sophomore Bella Valentine, who has grown into a key player in the lineup in the No. 2 spot.
Valentine finished 2-for-4 with two doubles and drove in the walk-off run in the bottom of the fifth inning to end the game early on the 10-run rule.
“She battled and she was pretty disciplined today,” Ryan Colegrove said. “She’s just grown stronger as a hitter and she’s a key player in our lineup.”

Jewely Bibancos also had a good day at the plate and finished 2-for-3 with a double, while her twin sister Diamond Bibancos was 2-for-2 and both Savannah Colegrove and Nae-Rew Martin were 2-for-3.
Tatianna Colegrove added a double, while Nalani Colegrove, Bethany Masten and Rianna Bain each also had a hit.
Rounding out a very good all-around day, the Warriors also played some good defense, particularly the middle infield of shortstop Tatianna Colegrove and Martin at second base.

“Nothing gets by them,” the head coach said of the athletic duo. “And they make minimal errors.”
Standout senior Emma Wilson had one of St. Bernard’s two hits in her final game for the Crusaders, while Ella Jimenez had the other.
The win was the 20th on the season for the Warriors, who are now 20-5.
