Cappa gives shoutout to ‘Lumberjack Iron’ in front of massive TV audience

By Ray Hamill — Playing in the most anticipated regular season game of the NFL season on Sunday night, Alex Cappa gave a special shoutout to Lumberjack Iron.

The former Humboldt State player, who is a starting guard for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, was on hand when teammate Tom Brady returned to New England for the nationally televised and much-anticipated showdown.

The game, which was watched by 28.5 million viewers, was the second most watched Sunday night game ever, trailing only the 2012 season finale between Dallas and Washington, which had 30.3 millions viewers.

And when Cappa introduced himself, as is the norm for players on primetime games, he gave a shoutout to the local award winning HSU strength and conditioning program.

Instead of naming his college, Cappa instead said “Lumberjack Iron.”

Cappa was one of the last players to play football at Humboldt State, which dropped football after the 2018 season, a decision that has obviously not been well received by former players and fans.

The fourth-year guard was a Super Bowl winner with Brady and the Bucs in February of this year.

Lumberjack Iron is overseen by award winning strength and conditioning coach, Drew Petersen.

  1. OK, that makes more sense than what I thought he said, “Lumberjack High.” Good job, Alex, of honoring those who helped you in your success, while giving subtle shade to those who eliminated a great program for both the school and the community.
