Crabs turn up the excitement levels late in the season

Ray Hamill/ – Fans have been treated to some exciting games at the Arcata Ball Park recently.

By Ray Hamill — The Humboldt Crabs have had their fair share of blowouts this summer, but they’ve turned up the excitement levels in recents games as they get set for a mid-week series against the Prescott Road Runners.

On Saturday night, they won in dramatic fashion, beating TKB Baeball 6-5 in 10 innings on a Dylan McPhillips walk-off home run, his second home run of the season.

It was the Crabs’ second extra-innings walk-off victory of the week.

Four days earlier, Andrew Allanson continued his big season with a walk-off single in the bottom of the 11th inning, sealing a 10-9 win over the Redding Tigers.

The Crabs, who have won six straight and are now 31-6, have just two weeks remaining in the season, including a two-game stand against the Prescott Road Runners, which gets under way at the Arcata Ball Park on Tuesday night.

They play the Fresno Athletics in a three-game series this weekend.

The Crabs secured the series sweep of TKB Baseball with a 7-0 win on Sunday, with Owen Stevenson, Wesley Harper and Chad Wilson combining on the mound for a two-hitter.

A pair of former Eureka Loggers had a big day at the plate in the win, with Ethan Fischel hitting a home run and Aidan Morris a double.

The home run was Fischel’s third in four games and gives him four on the season.

The team now has 33 home runs on the summer, led by Gabe Giosso with six.
