Jeran Ford pitched a two-hit shutout to lead the Humboldt Eagles 19Us to a 4-0 win over a travel team form Portland in American Legion baseball action in Eureka on Sunday.
Ford, who will be a senior at Eureka next season, pitched all seven innings for the win, allowing just three walks and striking out six.
“We had some good pitching and played some good defense behind him,” Eagles head coach Jeff Mielke said. “He’s developing into a pretty solid pitcher for us.”’
The Eagles struck early, scoring all four of their runs in the bottom of the first to give their pitcher and his defense a cushion, and they made it stick with an errorless game.
Former St. Bernard’s standout Hunter Davis stayed hot at the plate, hitting a key RBI double, while Eureka’s Caden Vance also continued to impress with a pair of hits.
“We made plays when we needed to,” Mielke said.
Parker Rodgers and Connor Johnson rounded out a five-hit team performance.
Next up, the Eagles will travel to play at the Area tournament in Fairfield, which begins on Thursday.
