The Northern Humboldt Giants continued to roll in American Legion baseball on Sunday, winning two more games to take the championship at their own tournament.

The three-day event featured 11 teams and some quality competition, with the Giants facing a good Marysville team in the championship game on Sunday evening and winning 5-3.

Earlier in the day, the 17U Giants beat Sutter 4-3 in nine innings.

The in-form William Bommelyn had a huge day, including driving in teammate Jared Dixon for the winning run on a walk-off base hit against Sutter.

Bommelyn, who will be a junior at Del Norte in the fall, had six hits on the day, three in each game.

Jason DeShaun also had two hits in the opener, with Dixon, Finn McRae and Brody Mattz each also finishing with a hit.

Mattz got the win on the mound, pitching one inning in relief of Ethan Thomas, who threw eight strong innings.

Thomas allowed just three hits and struck out four.

McRae got the win on the mound in the championship showdown, allowing three hits in five innings and striking out five, with Mattz tossing the final two innings in relief.

Vincent Agliolo continued his impressive summer and was 2-for-3 with a double, with DeShaun, Thomas, McRae, Alex Gorge, Will Mager and Miles Oliver each also getting a hit.

With the two victories, the red-hot Giants are now 20-2-1 on the season.
