The Humboldt Eagles 19U American Legion team closed out a successful weekend at the Medford tournament with a fifth win in four days on Sunday.

The red-hot birds got the better of Klamath Falls 7-5, taking an early advantage and keeping their opponents at bay the rest of the way in a close game.

With the win, the Eagles closed out their tournament division undefeated.

Keenan Morris continued to impress at the plate, finishing 2-for-4 with a triple and a double as well as scoring three of the Eagles’ runs.

Mason Nichols also had two hits and three RBIs, while Parker Rodgers, Caden Vance, Xander Sorensen and Daniel Osborne each had a hit.

Mateo Gutierrez pitched four innings for the win, allowing nine hits and three walks and striking out two.

“Mateo did well,” Eagles head coach Jeff Mielke said. “He kept it close for us.”

Landon Gomes, Nichols and Morris each pitched in relief as the Eagles shut out the Klamath offense over the final three innings.

The Eagles, who have won six of their last seven games after a slow start to the season, are now 7-9.

Next up, they play the Southern Humboldt 76ers in Fortuna on Tuesday night.
