By Ray Hamill — Two District Little League all-star tournaments got under way in Humboldt County on Saturday, with three games split between Arcata and McKinleyville.
At Hiller Park in McKinleyville, the Redwood Empire Little League 11-year-old all-stars opened their tournament on a winning note, getting the better of Eel River by a score of 7-3.
The three-team tournament continues on Sunday morning, when McKinleyville takes on Redwood Empire at 9:30 a.m.
The winner of that game will continue in the winner’s bracket on Tuesday, while the loser will face an elimination game on Monday night against Eel River at 6 p.m.
The double-elimination tournament runs through Tuesday at least.
Also in action on Saturday, the local 10-year-old all-stars got their tournament under way with two games at the Arcata Little League Fields.
McKinleyville got the five-team tournament off to a winning start with an 11-0 win over Redwood Empire.


In game two, Klamath Trinity defeated Eel River 17-6.
Two more games are scheduled for Sunday, with Redwood Empire playing Eel River in an elimination game at noon, followed by host Arcata opening play against Klamath Trinity at 2:30 p.m.
The 10-year-old tournament will run through Wednesday at least.
