The Eureka Loggers are still unbeaten in H-DNL softball.

Barely.

On Saturday they faced what head coach Sarah Fox described as their toughest set of games this season, sweeping both ends of a doubleheader at Fortuna.

They had to battle back from a late 6-3 deficit in game one, scoring four runs in the top of the seventh for a 7-6 win, before winning 13-7 in game two.

Zia Gee drove in the go-ahead run in game one, while Kira Morris and Sadie Hampton each had huge days for the Loggers, who improved to 11-0.

Morris pitched the win in the opener, allowing nine hits in seven innings and striking out 10, while also finishing 3-for-4 at the plate with a triple.

She added three more hits in game two, while reaching base five times and stealing a pair of bases.

In game one, the Loggers had to overcome some defensive mistakes and some solid Fortuna pitching from Kylee Fennell and Libby Johnston, who combined to strike out nine and allow 12 hits.

“Both pitchers for Fortuna threw extremely well and forced a close first game,” Fox said.

Sadie Hampton also had a big day for the Loggers, finishing 5-for-6 with a pair of doubles, while Claire Maples finished the day 4-for-9 with a triple and had two stolen bases in the opener.

Salina Socha-Wright also had two hits in the opener and Mariah Napoleon had two in game two.

Alexa Morehouse pitched the win in game two, allowing just three earned runs on seven hits in seven innings and striking out two.

Fennell and Johnston combined in the circle again for Fortuna, as the Loggers took control early with five runs in the top of the first.

At the plate, Johnston also had a big day, finishing 4-for-8 with three doubles and two RBIs.

Fortuna’s Fennell, Zoe Dewberry and Catherine Duncan each also had two hits in game one, while Kelsi Hall had two RBIs in game two.

The Huskies are now 4-7.
