By Ray Hamill — One former H-DNL player is coming off a “monster” two years playing college basketball, as she gets set to weigh her options and move on to the next level.
Former Fortuna Husky Isobel Crosswhite recently closed out a two-year career playing for the College of Marin women’s team and left a lasting legacy with the program.
This past winter Crosswhite became the school’s all-time leading rebounder, men or women, and the women’s program’s second all-time leading scorer.
And her head coach Emily Schaefer says she will be missed.
“She had a monster career the last two years,” Schaefer said. “And now she’s looking to move on.”
Crosswhite, who graduated from Fortuna in 2022, set the Mariners’ all-time career rebounding record with 629 and she closed out her JC career with 785 points, which was just five points off the program career record.
And now she’s getting set to take her talents to a four-year program and is currently considering her options after visiting some Division-II schools, with one more visit planned for next week.
“You never want to see a player like that graduate,” Schaefer said. “But we’re excited for her to have this opportunity.”
Crosswhite is one of several local players to have thrived recently at Marin, along with McKinleyville’s Kayley Armstrong and Victoria Claros, as well as 2023 St. Bernard’s graduate Mataya Sherman, who also played a key role for the Mariners last season.
“We’ve been really lucky with the kids we’ve got from that area,” Schaefer said. “There’s something to be said about the level of hard work there. They’ve been really good for us and they’ve transitioned nicely to our conference.”

Sherman was a defensive specialist for the team this past winter and thrived in the role while quickly adjusting to the collegiate level.
“She has been amazing for us,” Schaefer said. “She was our go-to defender.”
Sherman is expected back with the team next winter and has been busy this offseason preparing for her sophomore campaign, focusing on getting stronger and faster.
This week, McKinleyville senior Bella Turner also committed her future to the Mariners and will join Schaefer’s team in the fall.
Crosswhite is expected to make her decision on where she will play next soon.
