Redwoods softball opens the season against Butte in Redding

The College of the Redwoods bats were held without a hit in game two of their season-opening softball doubleheader against Butte in Redding on Thursday.

The Corsairs dropped both games, falling 12-3 in the opener and 10-3 in game two.

The CR women got some balanced hitting in game one, with seven different players accounting for their eight hits, including Sadie Wilkinson, who was 2-for-2.

Karyn Jensen finished 1-for-3 with two RBIs, while Juliana Ortega-Miranda, Grace Rosebrook, Samantha Caughie, Nas-Che-Wen Hunsucker and Makayla Bernald each also had a hit.

Bernald took the loss in the pitcher’s circle in game one, while striking out six and walking two.

Kylee Dewey took the loss in game two, finishing with two strikeouts.

Taytum Mello got the win in game two.

The Corsairs will play many of their games at a neutral site in Redding this season because al conference teams are required to travel on the same day of competition.

They will host four doubleheaders late in the season, two each against Shasta and Siskiyous.

Their home opener will be on May 6 against Shasta.
