The Corsairs managed just four hits in each game of a baseball doubleheader against Butte in Redding on Thursday, while committing 10 errors on the day.

The Corsairs dropped both games, 9-1 and 12-1.

“We struggled to get things going offensively and weren’t able to get guys over and in when we did have guys on,” interim head coach Andrew Aiello said. “We made a few defensive errors that cost us by extending innings or allowed unearned runs.”

The Corsairs got two solid pitching performances again from starters Chandler Jones and Bly Moser.

“Our pitchers are working their tails off for us and we need to find ways to support them defensively and offensively,” Aiello said.

At the plate for CR, Maxwell Shanks had a double in game one, while Cameron Allenshipman was 2-for-3 in game two.

Dylan Short also had a double in game two.

Aiello and his players will try to bounce back in another doubleheader against Butte (4-0) in Redding on Saturday.

“We just want to try and keep competing and working hard every day trying to get better,” the coach said. “We want to build a program and not just a team here at CR.”

The Corsairs (1-3) will play many of their games this season at a neutral venue in Redding because conference teams are only permitted to travel on the day of competition.
