By Ray Hamill — St. Bernard’s quarterback Will Omey has been nominated for the MaxPreps/USA Football Players of the Week honors.
The national prep website honors eight players from throughout the nation each week during the football season, one player from each region.
And this week, Omey is one of five players nominated for the West, after a standout performance in Saturday’s playoff loss at San Marin.
Omey accounted for seven touchdowns in the loss, running in for five of them and passing for two more.
He completed 19-of-30 passes for 277 yards, while carrying the ball 43 times for 260 yards.
Omey has turned in several top performances this season, and led the entire NCS in total offensive yards.
Omey finished the year with 2,271 yards and 31 touchdowns passing, while rushing for 1,413 yards and 19 TDs.
Cardinal Newman quarterback Jackson Pavitt is also nominated for the honor, having also accounted for seven TDs in his team’s weekend playoff win.
Of the five top nominations in the West, four are underclassmen.
The winners are selected by USA Football, and each of them receive a certificate and a letterman patch.
The winners will be announced on Wednesday.
