The Del Norte girls stretched their unbeaten run to six straight games with a 1-1 tie with Ferndale in Redwood League action in Crescent City on Wednesday.

Also in action on Wednesday, the Eureka girls won a non-league game at South Fork 4-1.

In boys action action on Wednesday, Eureka won 5-0 at South Fork and Del Norte defeated Ferndale 10-2.

The closest game of the day took place between the Del Norte and Ferndale girls, who tied for the second time in league play.

With the draw, Ferndale is now 1-1-2 in the Redwood League, while Del Norte is 0-1-3.

St. Bernard’s leads the standings with a record of 3-0.

The Warriors rallied from a one-goal halftime deficit, scoring late in the second half when winger Liberty Chilcott pounced on a loose ball inside the penalty area and slotted home.

“It was very evenly-matched,” Del Norte head coach Shawn Eckart said of the game. “We were back and forth, back and forth, my team kept being positive and kept up the pressure.”

Two Del Norte players who have been playing key roles for the team this season continued to impress.

In goal, Avery Ritter showcased why she is one of the best goalkeepers in the H-DNL this fall with another strong performance.

“Avery’s been doing really well,” said Eckart, whose team has lost just once in the last 10 games, including seven shutouts. “I don’t think we’d be having the season we’re having without Avery.”

Central midfielder Jaden Bennett’s influence is also being felt.

“Jaden’s been on fire,” the coach added of the junior team captain, who is “always in the right spot.”

“She’s really stepped up in her junior year.”

No details were immediately available for the Wildcats.

At South Fork, meanwhile, the Eureka Loggers continued to roll as they improved to 8-1 on the season.

Ella Moxon scored a hat trick in the win, as the Loggers have now outscored their last three opponents 11-4.

Maya Mitchell also scored in the win, while Moriah Wyllie and Braelyn Frank each had an assist.

“The girls did well transitioning back to grass from playing the last two games on our turf,” Eureka head coach Melaina Valdez said.

The always dangerous Hannah Savio scored the only goal of the game for South Fork, with impressive Leyla Curia assisting on the play.

Curia also had a good game between the posts and finished with 18 saves.

The Cubs continue to make strides.

“The team passed well and created some scoring opportunities and kept the pressure up on defense,” South Fork head coach Beth Anderson said. “The girls have been playing well and continue to improve.”

With the loss, South Fork dropped to 3-11-1.

In boys action, the Loggers ran out to a comfortable win over the Cubs and they showcased their attacking depth with five different players finding the back of the net.

Bryce Pope, Jalen Foster, Lucas Ask, Landon Larson and D’Allesandro Medina all scored in the win.

Ask also assisted on two of the goals for a good all-around day, while Medina also had an assist.

The Loggers started slow, which may have had something to do with the hot conditions, but they grew into the game and led by two at the interval.

“We were able to get some valuable minutes in our new shape and minutes for players returning from injury, as we get into the challenging part of our season,” Eureka head coach Tommy Learmouth. “So getting healthy is a plus.”

So too is finding their rhythm on the road.

“I was happy with how our team performed,” Learmouth added. “Over the last few seasons we’ve struggled on road trips and I thought yesterday we managed our expectations, took what South Fork was giving us and found the back of the net.

“All in all, very happy with the team performance.”

No stats or details were immediately available for the Cubs, who dropped to 4-10-3.
