By Ray Hamill — Like generations of players that have come before him, Adam Enyart has enjoyed playing for the Humboldt Crabs.
And as his time with the team winds down, the two-year Humboldt Crab has left his mark with the local collegiate summer team while playing a key role in back-to-back summers.
But the games are just a part of what Enyart says he will remember the most about his time here on the North Coast.
“The fans are second to nobody,” he said as he prepares for one more weekend series with the team. “They love the Crabs and you can feel their energy every day in the ball park. They have your back even when you see them out and about in the city.”
Enyart has earned the respect of those fans with his play at the Arcata Ball Park.
With just three games remaining in the season, the two-way player has been a star for the team, both on the mound and at the plate.
Wile appearing in more games than any other player on this year’s team (48 of the 50), he has averaged .361 at the plate with team-highs in RBIs (50) and doubles (12) while also hitting a team second-best six home runs.
He also has been a force on the mound, appearing in 16 games — second only to the 19 appearances his teammate Eli Fogelman has made — with a record of 3-1, a team-best two saves and an ERA of 3.73.
Playing at the Arcata Ball Park, he says, has played a key role in helping him develop as a player.
“The Crabs helped me grow as a player by helping me fall back in love with the game and having fun while playing,” he said.
And a new coaching staff this year — including new manager Jeff Giacomini — has helped towards that.
Enyart says the coaches have the players’ best interests at heart.
“They support you with whatever you need and will help you with more than just stuff on the field,” he said.
As for his favorite moment with the team? That came in late June against the Lincoln Potters in a game the Crabs needed to win to keep their league title hopes alive
After dropping two of three games at Lincoln earlier in the month, the Crabs opened a two-game series against the Potters at the Arcata Ball Park with revenge on their minds and a feeling they had to win to keep pace.
And right as he was about to step up to the plate, a young kid in the crowd asked Enyart to hit a home run.
Enyart delivered with a three-run blast to help key an eight-run inning and the team never looked back.
Playing in front of the young Crabs fans is a big part of what makes the atmosphere at the Arcata Ball Park so special.
“I’ve been in their shoes before, so I always try to share the love and be right there for them too,” Enyart said of the young fans.
Several of Enyart’s teammates have also left a lasting mark on the versatile Crabs standout.
Spending so much together on and off the field, the players have inevitably grown close and many of them have impressed Enyart with their play on a team that is 37-13 going into the final weekend of the summer season.
“Evan Miranda sticks out like no other, especially on the mound,” he said. “His presence and ability to get outs and swing and miss with his rise ball.”
Chyran Humphries also has impressed Enyart with his “unbelievable power,” while Alex Harrington and Tyler Howard have impressed him with their speed, and Colton Boardman with his “unbelievable glove” and “good feel on the field.”
“Most of all, the ability for all of us to have fun on the field and compete,” he said. “I’ll definitely remember all the wins we have shared together as a team.
“I’ve enjoyed my time and had endless memories. The coaching was great, the teammates were great. No complaints.”
Having finished at Sac State, Enyart is hoping to continue his baseball career in the pro ranks and he plans on training for a couple of months before getting to play indy ball somewhere.
