Humboldt Crabs Baseball – Joe Tanno in action for the Crabs on Wednesday night.

The Humboldt Crabs overcame an early three-run deficit on the way to completing a two-game sweep of the Chico Lone Wolves at the Arcata Ball Park on Wednesday night.

The Crabs would take control of the game with eight runs over the second and third innings combined and won 13-3.

With the victory, they improved to 37-13 with three games remaining in the summer season.

McKinleyville High’s Joe Tanno got the start on the mound for the Crabs and was one of three local pitchers to feature in the game, along with former Arcata Tigers Miles Oliver and Cedar Cline.

Oliver came took over in the second and threw five strong innings for the win, giving up no runs on one hit and striking out three.

Cline also held the visitors at bay, throwing two scoreless innings while giving up one hit.

The Crabs did not allow any walks.

The pitchers got plenty of offensive support from a lineup that out-hit the visitors 12-8 and hit three home runs.

Kawana Soares led the way at the plate and finished 3-for-5 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored, while Mike Pickett was 2-for-5 with a home run, a double, four RBIs and two runs.

Everet Johnson also had a home run in the win, while Manoa Chapman finished 2-for-3 with a double and two runs.

Joe Fagan also was 2-for-3 with two walks and two runs for the home team.

The Crabs will have a day off on Thursday before playing their final series of the season against the Placer County Peloteros this weekend.

Game one is set for Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
