By Ray Hamill — Congratulations to Ferndale’s Tinnley Pidgeon, who is this year’s Humboldt Sports Little 4 Girls Athlete of the year.

After sharing the award with Laila Florvilus of St. Bernard’s a year ago, Pidgeon receives the honor outright this year after an outstanding senior year of sports for the Wildcats.

Pidgeon was named Little 4 MVP Goalkeeper in soccer after leading the Ferndale girls to an historic first-ever North Coast Section Division-1 fall championship, and she followed that with All-League campaigns in basketball and softball.

And she leaves a legacy that will be difficult to top at Ferndale High.

Remarkably, Pidgeon received all-league recognition in 11 of her 12 high school sports seasons, including three MVP awards in soccer, a sport she had never played before high school.

She is also a three-time All-League selection in basketball, surpassing the 1000-point career mark this past winter, and received three All-League selections in softball, as well as an honorable mention as a junior despite missing the majority of that season through injury.

But that’s not all for this outstanding young lady.

Pidgeon was also named the 2025-26 CIF North Coast Section Girls Scholar-Athlete award winner  this year, beating out thousands of girls from 175 section schools for the prestigious award, which is given to just one male and one female in the entire section each year.

That’s a legacy of success on and off the field of competition.

And it all comes as no surprise to her coaches, all of whom have enjoyed working with Pidgeon through her memorable and highly-successful high school career.

“From the very beginning of the season to the end, she was a leader for our team,” Ferndale goalkeeper coach Brenden McDonald said after Pidgeon was maned MVP Goalkeeper in the fall. “Communicating on the field with her teammates, as well as off the field, and trying to make everyone better as a team. These leadership qualities have always been with Tinnley, but this year they really showed.”

In basketball, Pidgeon averaged 13 points, 4.5 rebounds and a team-high 2.8 assists as a senior, while also coming away with a team-high 2.6 steals and showcasing her hustle.

She also turned in one of the individual performances of the season when Ferndale came close to knocking off Big 5 champs and eventual tournament winners Arcata in the Dick Niclai Tournament semifinals.

She continued to excel in softball, averaging a very impressive .461 at the plate with team-highs in RBIs (34) and triples (six), as well as six doubles and four home runs.

She will continue her studies at Texas Tech in the fall.
