The Humboldt Composite Mountain Bike Team (HCMBT) traveled to Novato for the third race of the spring season over the weekend, with 16 riders from around the county making the trip.
And it was another good showing for seventh-grader Jade Lysander, who continued to set a high standard for the team.
Lysander had the highest placing of the day for HCMBT and finished fourth in the seventh grade boys race, out of 72 racers.
His teammate Theo Loya was the next best HCMBT rider in that race, placing 42nd, followed by teammates Rai Dirschel in 51st and Tucker Perez in 63rd.
In varsity action, there was little to separate Humboldt teammates Béla Randles and Dinon McIntosh.
Randles finished 13th out of 38 riders in the most competitive category of the day, with McIntosh right on his heels and placing 16th, less than a minute behind his teammate.
Humboldt’s Asa Jules led the way in the JV1 race, placing 24th out of 55 total riders, while teammate Grayden Larsen came in 37th.
Also in action for the local team, Oliver Bullwinkle and Landon Larson competed in the JV2 race.
Bullwinkle enjoyed a good day and came in ninth out of 79 racers, with Larson placed 21st.
In the Freshman division, Toben Jules led the way for a local contingent of three riders and finished 14th in a field of 71, followed by teammates Bodie Benzinger in 36th and Talin Fulton in 57th.
It was an impressive showing for the latter, who was competing in his first-ever race.
In addition to Lysander’s big performance, several other middle schools also impressed for the local team.
Sylas Kauffmann finished 12th out of 69 total participants in eighth-grade boys action, while in the sixth-grade division, Josef Salata finished 26th out of 42 riders and teammate Oren Baugh finished 40th.
Baugh was also competing in his first-ever race.
The HCMTB riders will be back in action at the Six Sigma Winery near Clear Lake in two weeks.
