HCMBT riders close out the spring season at Championship Race

Oliver Bullwinkle led the local charge at the season-concluding event for the Humboldt Composite Mountain Bike Team over the weekend.

The local riders traveled to Lake County to compete in windy and dusty conditions in the Championship Race at Six Sigma Winery.

And it was a good end to the season for Bullwinkle, who got on the podium for the first time after placing fifth in the JV2 boys race.

The NorCal Mountain Bike League is split in two divisions and the two groups race together at the last race of the season.  

In addition to Bullwinkle, 12 other riders from Humboldt County made the trip.

Seventh-grader Jade Lysander closed out another strong season for the local team and just missed out on the podium after placing sixth in his race.

Rai Dirschel and Maceo McCasland and competed in the seventh-grade race, placing 79th and 80th, respectively out of 118 riders.

The seventh-grade girls got a busy weekend started for the local team.

Skyler Sabo-Shumpert came in ninth, followed by teammate Seren Thomas in 11th, out of 23 riders

Local sixth-grader Oren Baugh was also in action and finished 59th out of 74 riders

Closing out the opening day for the HCMBT, eight-grader Sylas Kauffman finished 33rd in a large group of 128 riders.

The high schoolers competed on Sunday.

In addition to Bullwinkle’s impressive showing, Béla Randles also had a good day for the local contingent in the varsity boys race.

Randles placed 16th in a competitive field of 83 riders, followed by teammate Dinon McIntosh in 40th.

Landon Larson also placed 23rd in the JV2 boys race, while in freshmen boys action Toben Jules came in 21st out of 83 riders, followed by teammate Bodie Benzinger in 46th.
