The Crusaders got a busy week on the baseball fields under way in Redding on Monday, traveling to play University Prep in non-conference action.

And it was a disappointing start to the week for the team, which suffered just its second loss of the spring, falling 7-4.

With the loss, the St. Bernard’s boys dropped to 19-2 on the year, and they’ll try to get back to winning ways when they host Hoopa on Tuesday afternoon, before continuing a busy week with games at Hoopa on Thursday and at McKinleyville on Friday.

Senior Tyler Hinrichs continued to impress at the plate in Monday’s loss, finishing 2-for-4 with a run.

Hinrichs also took the loss on the mound in relief of starter Michael Manzi.

Manzi threw two scoreless and hitless innings, while allowing just one walk and striking out four.

Hinrichs then pitched 1.2 innings, allowing three earned runs on five hits, while walking two and striking out two.

Saehwan Kwon pitched the 2.1 innings, allowing two runs on two hits while walking three and striking out four.

Henry Hinrichs also made some noise at the plate, finishing 1-for-3 with a double and a walk, while Manzi was 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI and Garrett Shanahan was 1-for-2 with an RBI.

Freshman Mason Long also impressed in the loss, finishing 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI.

The Crusaders will honor their seniors before Tuesday afternoon’s game against Hoopa, which gets under way at 4 p.m.

With Monday’s win, the Panthers improved to 9-14-1.
