The South Fork Cubs stretched their winning streak to six straight games in softball with a dominating victory over a good Wolverines team at Willits High School on Wednesday.

The Little 4 leaders took a break from conference play but didn’t miss a beat as they continue to build momentum in the pursuit of a second straight L4 championship this spring.

Om Wednesday they scored in six of the seven innings they went to bat, opening up a five-run lead before the home team got on the board and stretching the advantage to 9-1 in the top of the fifth.

With the win, the South Fork girls improved to 10-7, while the Wolverines, who had won five of their previous six games, dropped to 8-4.

The high-scoring Cubs have averaged almost 10 runs a game in their six-game winning streak.

With sophomore pitcher Leila Coleman still sidelined with an injury, her older sister Mackenzie Coleman continued to pick up some of the slack on Wednesday.

The junior has been a force for the team both in the circle and at the plate and is averaging a team second-best .508 at the plate, which trails only Hailey Shepherd (.571).

Mackenzie struck out seven Willits batters and walked just one, and also finished 2-for-2 with a double, three walks and an RBI.

Shepherd also continues to see the ball well and had another big game against Willits, finishing 3-for-5 with an RBI, while teammate Molly Perkins also enjoyed a good day and was 3-for-5 with a double and three RBIs.

Hannah Savio added a triple in the win and was 2-for-4, while Kendall Kercher was 2-for-4 with a double, a walk and a team-high five RBIs, and Makenzie Brewer finished 2-for-3 with a double and two walks.

Aubrey Young rounded out a 15-hit team performance, finishing 1-for-3 with two walks and three RBIs.

The Cubs, who are 5-1 in the Little 4 halfway through the conference schedule, will resume conference play with a huge doubleheader at home against co-conference leaders Hoopa on Tuesday.
