By Ray Hamill — It’s been a good start to the new college football season for College of the Redwoods, and head coach Jason White and his players are getting respect from their peers.
After going 2-0 with a hard-fought 31-23 win over Reedley College in last weekend’s home opener, Redwoods has moved into the top 25 in the state rankings.
Redwoods is No. 21 in this week’s JC Athletic Bureau / CCCFCA Coaches Poll.
CR opened the season with a dominating 41-21 win at San Jose City College two weeks ago, before returning to the North Coast and getting the better of Reedley on Saturday.
They will hit the road again this weekend, playing at Sacramento City College on Saturday afternoon, with kickoff set for 1 p.m.
All five of CR’s National NorCal Conference opponents also feature in this week’s top 25, showcasing the depth in conference this year.
Butte (2–0) leads the way at No. 4, followed by No. 8 Diablo Valley (2-0) and No. 16 Sierra (1-1).
American River (0-2) is just two spots behind CR at No. 23, while Laney (1-1) is tied for No. 25.
CR’s first two opponents — San Jose and Reedley — sit just outside the top 25.
Sacramento City, which is off to an 0-2 start, also sits just outside the top 25.
