College of the Redwoods sophomore Gabby Crosswhite saved her best for last as she closed out her JC career in cross country in style.

The former Fortuna Husky enjoyed a memorable postseason run that culminated with a trip to the weekend state championships in Fresno.

After placing second in conference a few weeks ago, Crosswhite followed that with a strong showing at the NorCal championships, where she smashed her previous PR by a minute, finishing the 6K course in a time of 20 minutes, 41 seconds and qualifying for the prestigious state meet.

But Crosswhite was just getting warmed up.

On Saturday, she traveled to Fresno and set yet another PR, taking 26 seconds off her previous best time.

Crosswhite, who was CR’s only representative at the state meet, finished in a time of 20:15 and placed 73rd overall.

“Gabby killed it today,” CR head coach Reed Elmore said after the big performance. “Between her PR at NorCals and her PR in state, she is in a whole new category.”

While her JC cross country career is now over, Crosswhite still has the track and field season to compete in, and Elmore is expecting more improvement from the hard-working sophomore, who will take her talents to a four-year program after her time at CR.

“We are looking forward to track to test out her newfound speed,” Elmore said.
