The Cal Poly Humboldt men’s basketball team won a pair of road games in Rocklin over the weekend, including a double-OT thriller on Saturday night.

One night after new head coach DJ Broome and his players got their first win of the season against Northwest Nazarene by a score of 65-64, the Jacks got the better of Jessup University 85-81 on Saturday.

With the two wins, the CPH men improved to 2-2 on the season.

Drew Ardouin and Rob Jenkins combined for 60 points in Saturday’s win, including a game-high 32 from Ardouin, who nailed five 3-pointers.

“Really proud of the group on how they stayed together and finished off the weekend,” Broome said. “Any time you can come out on top of a double-overtime game shows the resiliency of the group and is a great sign for us down the road as we continue to build.

“Rob and Drew were ridiculous tonight, and obviously their scoring jumps off the stat sheet, but I thought Dorrell (Thomas), Ray (Thorson) and (Dennis) Cash gave us much needed minutes off the bench that really pushed us over the top.”

The Jacks will look to extend their winning streak when they travel to Alaska next weekend for their final pair of non-conference road games.

They play Alaska Anchorage on Friday and Alaska Fairbanks on Saturday.

The Cal Poly Humboldt women were also in action over the weekend, falling 61-54 to Biola in La Mirada.

The Lumberjacks, who dropped to 0-3, were led by Kyori Lloyd, who finished with 21 points and eight rebounds.

Lloyd shot 7-for-15 from the field and was perfect at the free throw line, going 5-for-5.

Jordyn Smith added 13 points, seven rebounds and three blocks, while anchoring Humboldt on both ends of the floor.

The Jacks will try to get their first win of the season when they host Jessup University on Saturday at 1 p.m.

The College of the Redwoods teams were also in action over the weekend.

The CR men reached the final of the Ed Boyle Invitational tournament in Ukiah, but lost 75-68 to Foothill in Sunday’s decider.

No stats were immediately available.

With the loss, Redwoods dropped to 5-3.

Next up, CR plays Columbia College in Sonora on Saturday night at 6.

The Redwoods women had a tough weekend at the Sierra tournament, losing all three of their games.

CR fell 81-50 to Fresno on Thursday and followed that with a 66-59 loss to Sierra on Friday and a 90-58 loss to San Francisco on Saturday.

The CR women are now 4-4.

They will play their home opener against Marin on Saturday at noon.
