The Hoopa Warriors got the new softball season started at the Trinity tournament this weekend, as they look to challenge defending champs South Fork for this year’s Little 4 championship.

Last year, the Warriors finished second to the Cubs in the conference, but they’ll be hoping to close the gap this year.

And with senior Monteya Colegrove impressing in the circle on opening weekend, they might just have the pitching to win a conference title.

The Warriors went 2-2 on opening weekend, including victories over Enterprise (4-2) and Weed (5-1), as well as losses to Durham (12-0) and Etna (1-0).

And there were plenty of bright spots for the team , including the play of Colegrove, who was named to the all-tournament team.

The senior pitched all four games and also made her presence felt at the plate.

She struck out four and walked one against Enterprise, as well as finishing 1-for-2 at the plate.

Hoopa’s Rikki Lipscomb and Tylie McKinnon each also went 1-for-2 against the Hornets.

Lipscomb, a senior, also impressed in the win over Weed and finished 2-for-3.

Senior Violet Abarr (1-for-1) and freshman Louise Marshall (1-for-2) each also made some noise at the plate against the Cougars, as did Colegrove, who helped her own cause and finished 1-for-3.

The senior pitcher also struck out three in that win.

However, the Hoopa girls were unable to get much going in shutout losses to Durham and Etna.

Colegrove finished 2-for-2 against Durham, and she also struck out two and walked two in a narrow loss to Etna.
