By Ray Hamill — Break out the thesaurus, we’re running out of superlatives to describe the No. 1 team in our Power Rankings.
The stats are nothing short of staggering, as the Ferndale Wildcats (7-0) have now outscored their first seven opponents by an incredible 450-0.
And with three games remaining — against three opponents Ferndale has outscored by a combined 224-0 over the past three weeks — there is every reason for Cats fans to start believing in their team’s remarkable pursuit of perfection.
Even considering how good unbeaten Big 4 leader St. Bernard’s has been, the Wildcats are leaving no one in doubt as to which program is the most dominating in H-DNL football right now.
This is the ninth straight week they have held the top spot in our weekly Power Rankings, a run that dates back to the preseason.
St. Bernard’s, meanwhile, is also 7-0 and remains steady at No. 2 in our rankings.
Last weekend, the Crusaders traveled to Crescent City and ended a long losing streak to Del Norte, posting their first-ever Big 4 win over the Warriors by a score of 16-0.
Halfway through the conference schedule, SB is in the driver’s seat in the race for this year’s championship and has beaten all three of its B4 opponents.
No. 3 Fortuna (3-4), also remains in the chase for this year’s Big 4 pennant.
The Huskies could be the most improved team in the H-DNL over the past month, having won three of their last four games and only a four-point loss to St. Bernard’s during that run.

They will no doubt like their chances of beating St. Bernard’s at Husky Field next week, but they need a win at Del Norte on Friday night first, and that’s never an easy ask.
And speaking of the Warriors, they hold steady at No. 4 for the third straight week despite being shut out against St. Bernard’s on Friday night.
They retain an outside shot at claiming a sixth straight conference title, but they will have to be perfect down the stretch and will need some help.
And rounding out our top five are a pair of teams that have disappointed somewhat this fall.
A beat-up Eureka team has now lost six straight games since an encouraging opening-weekend win over Arcata, while the Tigers were no match for Ferndale on Saturday and have now allowed more than 70 points twice in their seven games.
