Get ready for a celebration of Humboldt rugby later this month.

On Sept. 26, the Humboldt Rugby Association will welcome back generations of former players for Alumni Weekend.

The day will feature competitive matches, custom apparel stations and a beer garden, as they celebrate 53 years of competitive rugby in the area.

“Alumni Weekend is the heartbeat of our program,” Vice President of the Humboldt Rugby Association Pat Bellefeuille said. “It’s a chance to honor the culture built by past generations while giving our current players the opportunity to showcase themselves in front of the legends who paved the way.”

Humboldt State first fielded a club team in the sport during the 1973/74 school year and the tradition remains alive and well over half a century later.

The Alumni Weekend will include three games, all of them at the Arcata Sports Complex fields.

The current women’s team will get the day’s action started when they play the alumni at 11 a.m., followed by the men’s alumni team facing off against the Mendo Bald Eagles immediately afterwards.

The third game of the day will take place between the current CPH team and Monterey Peninsula and kicks off at 2 p.m.

All afternoon matches are free and open to the public.

There will be a beer garden set up for adults over 21 with valid CA ID.

Spectators are reminded that no outside alcohol is permitted due to on-site vendor licensing.
