If it’s true what they say about how defense wins championships, the Jacks are sitting pretty.
On Friday afternoon, the Cal Poly Humboldt women’s soccer team set a program record with a sixth straight shutout.
The Jacks welcomed Stanislaus State to College Creek Field and own 1-0.
The victory extends the team’s unbeaten run to six straight games, including five in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
It also extends the Jacks’ lead to two points atop the conference standings almost halfway through the schedule.
After a scoreless opening half, the Jacks broke the deadlock shortly after the break when Karsyn Ross netted her their goal of the season, finishing a well-placed pass from teammate Frida Duran Arellano.
The Jacks’ defense once again proved impenetrable, limiting the Warriors to just seven shots and only five on target.
Goalkeepers Ari Beddoes and Carson Thomson-Terrel split time between the posts and combined for four saves to preserve the clean sheet.
Offensively, Humboldt tallied nine total shots, led by Morgan Young, who had three.
With the victory, Cal Poly Humboldt improves to 5-3-4 overall and 3-0-2 in CCAA play.
The Jacks will look to keep their record-setting momentum rolling when they continue conference play on Sunday at home versus Cal State San Bernardino.
Kickoff is at 11:30 a.m.
Sunday will be senior day for the team.
