
St. Bernard’s and Hoopa got their Little 4 campaigns off to a winning start in volleyball on Tuesday night.
The Crusaders traveled to Ferndale and won a very competitive game, 21-25, 25-22, 25-10, 29-27, while the Warriors welcomed South Fork to Hoopa and won 25-14, 25-27, 25-19, 25-22.
Defending conference champs St. Bernard’s had to rally from an early deficit to get the win, but quickly turned things around.
“Losing the first set, the girls really found their footing the next three sets to play good volleyball,” SB head coach Sejay Sarti said. “It was awesome to open league with a win.”
Claira Hoffman was instrumental in the comeback, setting the tone for her teammates wby serving seven points in a row in the second set and 11 straight in the third set.
“She carried the team,” Sarti said.
Brittyn Ikeya and Scarlett Zerlang both also impressed in the win, keeping “Ferndale on their toes hitting hard from the outside position,” according to the coach.
Sarti also praised the play of the Wildcats.
“Ferndale is scrappy and has a lot of resilience,” Sarti said. “They are a forced to be reckoned with.”
No stats were immediately available for Ferndale.
The Crusaders also won the JV match, 25-22, 25-18.
At Hoopa, meanwhile, the host Warriors also began conference play with a win.
Freshman Vuunsip E-Kor and and junior Wau’Kel Blake each led the Hoopa girls with eight kills apiece, while junior Chloe King added four kills.
Anton junior, Taelyr Lewis-Tracy led the way the service line and had four aces, while freshman Luella Cosce finished with a team-high 17 digs and junior Marley Tracy had 10 digs.
No stats were immediately available for South Fork.
