Cameron Sewell celebrated the Fourth of July with a big day at the plate, as the Humboldt Crabs won their fourth straight game.
The Crabs welcomed the Solano Mudcats to the Arcata Ball Park for the holiday showdown and cruised to a 10-1 win in Pacific Empire league action.
With the victory, the Crabs improved to 22-4 on the summer and 6-4 in league play.
And Sewell was instrumental in the dominating performance, finishing 3-for-3 and hitting a pair of home runs.
Sewell, who also had two walks, three RBIs and scored four times, now has a team-leading seven home runs on the summer.
And he has been on fire at the plate recently, hitting successfully in eight straight games, including hitting five home runs in his last five games.
He is batting team-best .425 on the season.
Myles Standish threw five strong innings for the win on the mound, as the Crabs started fast and plated six runs in the opening two innings to quickly take control.
Standish, a former Eureka Logger, allowed four hits and two walks and struck out six.
With wins in four of his last five appearances, Standish is now tied with Adam Enyart for a team-leading four wins.
Former Fortuna Husky Coldy Collins also pitched two hitless innings in relief and struck out six.
Enyart, Houston Hirschkorn and Elijah McNeal each added two hits in Friday’s win, including doubles by Enyart and Hirschkorn.
Eureka’s Keenan Morris also had a base hit in the win.
With the loss, the Mudcats dropped to 2-9 in league and 7-9 overall.
The Crabs are 6-4 in league action and in a three-way tie with the Medford Rogues and Lincoln Potters for second, trailing the high-flying Healdsburg Prune Packers, who are 8-2.
The Crabs and Mudcats will continue their three-game weekend series at the Arcata Ball Park on Saturday night at 6:30 p.m.
