By Ray Hamill — With the District 26 Little League season now concluded, four Humboldt County championship teams will now turn their attention to the upcoming Section tournaments, along with one from Del Norte.
The action gets under way this weekend with one local team involved, while the other four will continue their seasons later in the month.
The four District 26 champions include the McKinleyville Junior League All-Stars and the McKinleyville 12-year-old All-Stars, as well as the Eel River 8-10s and the Redwood Empire 11s.
The Del Norte 12-year-olds also are the Oregon District 8 champions and still playing.
The Mack Juniors will be the first in action, traveling to play their Section tournament in Yuba City this weekend.
They went 5-1 at the District tournament last month, rallying from an opening-day loss and beating Eel River in the championship round.
They open the Section tournament on Saturday night at 6 p.m.
The Eel River 8-10s, meanwhile, won’t have to travel for their Section tournament.
The young Eel River players went 3-0 at the District tournament, defeating McKinleyville 3-1 in the championship game.
They will host their Section tournament at Firemen’s Park in Ferndale, with the tournament getting under way next Friday.
Eel River begins tournament play on Saturday, July 12 at 2 p.m. against a yet to be determined opponent.

The RELL 11s, meanwhile, also went 3-0 in the District tournament, defeating Klamath Trinity 23-9 in the championship game.
They will now travel to Chico next weekend, also opening on the 12th.
The McKinleyville 12-year-old All-Stars will also travel to Chico for their Section tournament and also begin tournament play on the 12th.
The Mack All-Stars won the District title in dramatic fashion on Wednesday night, rallying from a late two-run deficit with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning for a walk-off victory over Redwood Empire.
And rounding out the local teams still playing, the Del Norte 12s won all three of their games at their District tournament two weeks ago and will begin play at the Oregon state tournament in Portland on July 19.
