The Humboldt Crabs wasted little time putting Tuesday’s league-opening loss to the Healdsburg Prune Packers behind them.
On Wednesday, the Crabs returned to winning ways with a thrilling 6-3 win at Healdsburg to go to 1-1 in the Pacific Empire League and 13-1 overall.
Trailing 3-2 going into the ninth, they rallied with four runs to take their third lead of the night.
And this time they made it stick, holding on in the bottom of the ninth for a much-needed league win.
The visitors out-hit their hosts 11-4, led by Cameron Sewell and Tyler Howard.
Howard finished 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, while Sewell was 3-for-5 with an RBI.
Keenan Morris, Adam Enyart, Houston Hirschkorn, Niko Lombardi and Michael Perazzo each also had a base hit in the win.
The Crabs took a 1-0 led in the top of the first and took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fifth.
However, the Prune Packers, who beat the Crabs 11-6 in the series opener on Tuesday night, scored twice in the bottom of the fifth to take their first lead of the day.
But the Crabs pitchers and their defense would shut them down the rest of the way.
Brody Jacobs got the start on the mound and threw 4.2 strong innings for a no-decision, allowing three hits and three walks and striking out one.
Kayden Kohlberg got the win in relief, throwing 4.1 innings of one-hit ball, walking one and striking out three.
It was Kohlberg’s first win in six appearances for the team this summer.
The loss was the first of the summer for Healdsburg, which dropped to 1-1 in leaguer and 8-1 overall.
The two clubs will close out their series on Thursday night, with first pitch set for 6 p.m.
The game will be broadcast on KATA 1340 AM and 92.7 FM, and streamed on the Crabs YouTube channel.
