The Humboldt Composite Mountain Bike Team (HCMTB) continued a busy spring season with a long trek south to La Grange near Modesto for their third race of the National Interscholastic Cycling Association NorCal season last week.
The event was held at the Exchequer Bike Park.
A total of 10 local riders from high schools and middle schools throughout the county made the trip and the team enjoyed another strong showing.
In particular, Béla Randles and Jade Lysander, who each made the podium for the third time in three events this year and are enjoying outstanding seasons.
Lysander secured a third straight win in the sixth-grade Junior development race, leading a field of 34 riders, while Randles finished fifth out of 65 riders in the JV1 division.
As a team, the HCTMB riders secured a fourth overall finish out of 19 composite teams competing.
Also in action for HCMTB, Dinon McIntosh got the day off to a good start and placed 22nd out of 42 riders in a highly competitive varsity race, while sophomore Grayden Larson had a strong performance in the JV2 race and placed 17th.
Competing in the JV1 division, Asa Jules and Nolan Kavanaugh started side by side in the race chute and both moved up positions from their previous race, placing 24th and 34th, respectively, out of 65 riders.
Evelyn Seemann also had a notable race, finishing 17th in the highly competitive JV1 girls race.
Newcomers Oliver Bullwinkle and Ambrose Kone were each competing in just their second-ever NICA race and both impressed for HCMTB in the freshmen division.
Bullwinkle placed 39th out of 71 riders, with teammate Kone finishing 67th.
Bodie Benzinger also was in a action for HCMTB in the eighth-grade Jr. Development division and managed to hold onto his position from Fort Ord in the previous event, finishing 30th in a group of 46 riders.
