Local motor sports fans showed up in big numbers at the Redwood Acres Raceway on Saturday night, as the Spears SRL Southwest Tour Series made its return to the local track for the first time since 2016 in front of a packed house.

And it was a good night for Jacob Gomes who won a competitive featured event with a strong showing.

With the victory, Gomes earned himself a check for $15,000.

Also in action on what was the second-to-last event of the season, the Spears Modified Series made their debut at the raceway, while the Nor Cal Legends Series made their second visit to the 3/8-mile paved oval this season. 

The weekend’s races were presented by Harper Motors, Mid-City Motor World, Big Valley Sanitation and JM Environmental.

Fast time for the Spears SRL Southwest Tour Series went to Dylan Zampa with a time of 15.890. 

Gomes took the checkered flag in the big race of the night and was followed across the line by Zampa, with Blaine Rocha, Buddy Shepherd  and Austin Herzog rounding out the top five finishers.

In the Spears Modified Series main event, it was Scott Winters who took the checkered flag and a $2,000 winning check.

Holly Clark finished second, followed by Cameron Austin in third, Sierra Furia in fourth and Kylei Keown in fifth.

Qualifying for the Nor Cal Legends Series was paced by Jeremy Doss with a 17.365. 

Heat race winners were T.J. Buzzard, Dan Maxwell, Landen Green and Doss. 

Carlee Austin was the winner of the B-main event while Buzzard placed second with both drivers starting at the rear of the 30-lap feature.

Doss took the victory in the main event thanks to a strong finish, with Robby Czub in second and Brandon White, Cole Brown and Kai Lovell rounding out the top five.

The 2024 Redwood Acres Raceway season will conclude on Sept. 21 with the Steve Taylor Memorial Fall Spectacular. 

A full schedule of late models, Upstate Modifieds, Upstate Bombers, Legends and mini stocks will be in action. 

In addition, the season will conclude with the second boat race at the Acres for the year.
