The Cal Poly Humboldt men’s basketball team has advanced to the CCAA tournament semifinals after an opening-round win at Pomona on Thursday evening.
The Jacks, who are seeded No. 3 for the six-team postseason tournament, faced off against No. 6 San Marcos and beat the Cougars for the second time in five days, 62-52.
The win sets up a semifinal showdown against No. 2 seed Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
Zaveion Bineyard led the Jacks in scoring on Thursday and finished with 18 points, while teammate Shakir Odunewu had a double-double, finishing with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Rob Jenkins added 13 points in the win, while Dorrell Thomas chipped in 10 points.
Dominguez Hills won both regular-season matchups against the Jacks, although both games were close.
The Toros won 97-91 in overtime at Humboldt, and completed the conference sweep with a narrow 78-77 win at home at the end of January.
Friday’s game is one of two for Cal Poly Humboldt basketball.
The Humboldt women, who are seeded No. 2 in their tournament, had an opening round bye and will play their semifinal against No. 3 Cal State Los Angeles on Friday at noon.
Both Humboldt games will be broadcast live own local radio on ESPN 107.3 FM and 1340 AM.
