Former Arcata Tigers standout Avary Henry has been recognized by Aurora University after an impressive career playing golf for the school.

An H-DNL champion during her time at Arcata High, Henry recently closed out her college career at the NCAA Division-III championships.

But she left her mark with the Spartans and earned the respect of her teammates and coaches along the way.

Last week, Henry received the Spartan Woman of the Year Award and will be the school’s nominee for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award.

According to a press release announcing the news, “The Spartan Woman of the Year award honors a graduating female student-athlete who has exhausted her eligibility and distinguished herself throughout her collegiate careers in academics, athletics, service and leadership.”

Henry graduated from the Illinois university this year.

During her time at AU, Avery received numerous awards for her performance on and off the golf course.

She was named a Northern Athletics Collegiate All-Conference Player multiple times, the NACC Freshman of the Year and was a NCAA Elite 90 nominee multiple times.

Henry recently capped an impressive four years at the school at the NCAA Division-III national championships, which were played at the Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Kentucky.

Henry had the second best performance for the Spartans and placed 81st overall with a two-day score of 165 (84 and 81).

The Spartans placed 22nd out of 29 teams.

The NCAA Woman of the Year award was established in 1991.

The selection committee is made up of representatives from the NCAA membership and will choose the top 30 honorees – 10 from each division.

The nine finalists, including three from Division III, will be announced in September.
