Crabs stretch winning streak to seven, get ready for busy week

The Humboldt Crabs will carry plenty of momentum into six straight days of league play this week after sweeping a three-game series against the West Coast Kings over the weekend.

After defeating the Kings 4-2 on Friday night, the Crabs won 4-1 on Saturday and 7-1 on Sunday.

It was the Crabs’ first Pacific Empire League series sweep and stretched their winning streak to seven straight games.

The Crabs will continue a busy stretch of the season with six straight home league games, opening a three-game series against the Healdsburg Prune Packers on Tuesday night and welcoming the Medford Rogues to the Arcata Ball Park this weekend.

Troy Harding provided the offensive highlight of the night on Saturday with his first home run of the summer in the bottom of the second inning.

The Long Beach native finished 2-for-4 and scored a pair of runs.

The Crabs were out-hit 7-4 for the game, but made their hits count, adding three decisive runs in the bottom of the fourth to break a 1-1 tie.

McKinleyville’s Cameron Saso got the win on the mound and improved to 2-1 on the summer.

The former Panthers standout threw six innings, allowing six hits and no walks and striking out seven.

The Crabs led throughout in Sunday’s game, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first and adding three more in the fifth to open up a 7-1 advantage.

The team bats came to play and out-hit the visitors 13-3 for the game, led by Jett Ruby, who was 4-for-5.

Michael Mckernan, Victor Castaneda and Max Farfan each added two hits.

Nolan Long threw five innings for the win on the hill and gave up two hits and three walks while striking out seven.

The game also featured the summer debut of Myles Standish, a former rEureka Logger who has joined the team for the remainder of the season.

The University of Hawaii pitcher wil give the Crabs some much-needed left-handed options on the mound and threw two scoreless and hitless innings in relief on Sunday, striking out two.

Tuesday night’s game against the Prune Packers, who swept a three-game series against the Crabs in Healdsburg earlier in the season, gets under way at 7 p.m.
