Goodrich enjoys big day at Coast League track and field championships

The Coast League track and field season recently concluded with the league championships at Fortuna Elementary School. 

And it proved to be a good day for the Academy of the Redwoods team and Alder Grove’s Ocean Goodrich.

Redwoods comfortably took the team championship, while Goodrich enjoyed an outstanding individual day and won five of the six events.

The Coast League includes small, alternative schools that are not a part of the larger Humboldt-Del Norte League.

Goodrich took first spot in the 200 meters, the mile, the standing broad jump and the shot put.

The Alder Grove standout won the 200m in a time of 27 seconds and was first across the line in the mile in a time of 5 minutes, 26.25 seconds.

Goodrich also won the standing broad jump with a jump of 8’ 10.5” and the shot put with a throw of 32’1”.

Academy of the Redwoods’ Rowan Estlin placed second in the shot put (23’ 4.5”), with Eureka Community School’s Dominic Smith (22’) in third.

As a team, Academy of the Redwoods scored 84 Points, followed by Alder Grove (57), Laurel Tree (37), Northern United Charter School (29) and Eureka Community School (20).

Goodrich capped a big all-around day with a victory in the pentathlon.

Estlin placed second in the event followed by Laurel Tree’s Flynt Rynomorr in third, Northern United Charter School’s Ricardo Freitas in fourth and Fia Hufnus of Laurel Tree in fifth.
