The last remaining unbeaten team in H-DNL baseball moved two wins clear of the chasing pack in the Little 4 with a doubleheader sweep on Tuesday.

St. Bernard’s welcomed South Fork to Crusader Field and posted a pair of shutout victories, winning 7-0 and 1-0.

With the two wins, the SB boys improved to 4-0 in conference and 12-0 on the season, while South Fork dropped to 2-2 and 6-9, but the Cubs remain second in the L4 standings.

All four St. Bernard’s pitchers impressed, allowing just four hits combined on the day.

Senior Tyler Hinrichs got the start on the mound in the opener and threw six strong innings, allowing one hit and four walks and striking out 11.

Freshman Teyler Bailey pitched the final inning to secure the win, holding the South Fork bats hitless and striking out one.

Junior Garrett Shanahan got the start in game two and threw five scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and two walks and striking out six.

Sophomore Saehwan Kwon pitched the final two innings for the save, holding the Cubs to just one hit and one walk and striking out four.

“Our pitchers carried us on a day where we didn’t swing the bats great and we ran the bases poorly,” St. Bernard’s head coach Matt Tomlin said. “Hinrichs and Bailey were outstanding in game one, and Shanahan and Kwon were equally as impressive in game two. Great pitching can win a lot of games.”

Hinrichs, who is enjoying an outstanding all-around season for the team, also had a good day at the plate, finishing 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and two runs in game one and finishing 1-for-2 with a walk and an RBI in the second game.

Braylon Johnson also made some noise at the plate and finished 1-for-1 with a walk and two runs in the opener, while teammate Brody Gaser was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Mason Noel also had two RBIs in that game.

No stats were immediately available for the Cubs.
