Former H-DNL standouts stepping up early for Lumberjacks

Several former H-DNL track standouts are having an impact early in the season for the Cal Poly Humboldt track and field team.

The Jacks traveled to Corvallis, Ore., to compete at the Pacific Northwest Invite at Oregon State on Saturday.

Among the most notable performances of the day, former Eureka Logger Ginny Brooks was a part of the women’s 4×400 meter relay team that ran the third fastest time in Lumberjacks history.

Brooks, a freshman, combined with Joy Hano, Grace Kasberger and Isabel Perez-Zoghbi for a time of 3 minutes, 52.22 seconds.

Another Eureka graduate, Charlotte Leonard ran a PR in the women’s 3000m, as the freshman finished in a time of 12:00.09.

Former Ferndale Wildcat Grant Van Emmerik placed second in the men’s 400m with a time of 48.29 seconds.

The Jacks senior also previously competed for College of the Redwoods before transferring to Cal Poly Humboldt.

In the men’s 3000m, former Eureka Logger Daniel Shaver ran a PR with a time of 9:13.17.

Perez-Zoghbi also ran an NCAA provisional mark in the women’s 400m hurdles in her first outdoor meet of the season.

Her time is the best in the nation among D-11 athletes this season.

Hano also continues to have the top Division-II mark in the nation in the 100m hurdles.

She posted a time of 14.08 seconds this week after previously running a 14.02 at Chico.

The Jacks will be back in action at this weekend’s Oregon Preview at Hayward Field in Eugene.
