By Ray Hamill — St. Bernard’s NorCal girls basketball semifinal has been switched again, it was announced early Saturday morning.

The big Division-4 showdown against Foothill, which was scheduled to take place at 1 p.m. on Saturday, will now be played on Monday night.

Tip off will be at 6 p.m. at Crusader Gym.

Because of the winter storm warning in effect this weekend, Foothill opted not to make the trip  from Palo Cedro, which is eight miles east of Redding, on Saturday and the California Interscholastic Federation made the decision to push the game back.

However, it remains to be seen if the weather conditions are any better on Monday.

It is the second time in 24 hours that the game was switched.

It was originally scheduled to take place on Saturday night, but on Friday afternoon the CIF announced it would be moved forward to Saturday afternoon.

The winner will advance to Tuesday night’s NorCal Division-4 championship game, with the winner of that game advancing to next weekend’s state championship.

The other semifinal in the bracket is still scheduled to go ahead at 7 p.m. at Arcata High School.

The Tigers, who are seeded No. 2 in the bracket, are scheduled to play No. 14 Notre Dame, which is making the trip to the North Coast from San Jose.

The Crusaders are the top seeds in the bracket, while Foothill is No. 4.

  1. Oh c’mon, HWY 299 does not get completely closed at all in such light storm events… go back, research data proves it… excluding midnight to 7am hour data…

…one thing Cal-Trans does, and I cringe to admit it, but even though Cal-Trans can just garbage up HWY 299 on construction projects…

…Cal-Trans keeps the road open and safe during snow storms…

I just drove through, it is fine. Highest elevation is super-safe Buckhorn pass…then super safe Oregon Mountain…and in between, Douglas City, two accesses to Trinity Lake…

… just drive slower, be safe… and I understand school buses are typically not 4wd, but 4wd vans are if purchased as such.

  2. Let’s see, Foothill Cougars, Palo Cedro, CA, competes in Division III, enrollment 1,398 (9-12.)

St. Bernard’s Crusaders, Eureka, CA, competes in Division V, enrollment 300 (6-12.)

Don’t ya just love CIF’s woke application of equitable athletic competition?

Looks pretty equitable to me! Just saying…

  3. just drove through again… no snow on road, clean drive… idk what this fear campaign by schools is all about other than not wanting to play a game…

… it messes up other sports, which ain’t cool folks… play tge game of forfeit!

  4. from yesterday,

[Hwy 299: Open and surprisingly no chains required but very snowy.]

That is because 299 runs along a freakin’ river for the most part… snow is up top on mountains where there is no Hwy 299… shocking 21st Century report…
