The Cal Poly Humboldt women won their second straight game in basketball on Saturday as they remain well in contention for a California Collegiate Athletic Association postseason tournament spot.

The Jacks got the better of Cal State East Bay 67-55 at Lumberjack Arena and moved above .500 with an 8-7 mark in conference and a 10-9 record overall.

The victory also lifted the Humboldt women into a two-way tie for fourth in the conference standings along with Stanislaus State.

Four other teams remain just one win further back in the standings in what is shaping up to a very competitive race for the CCAA tournament spots.

The Lumberjacks have seven games remaining in conference play.

“Tonight was a great team win,” head coach MIchelle Bento-Jackson said. “I am incredibly proud of our defensive effort and defensive execution throughout the game.”

Emilia Long continued her outstanding year with a game-high 24 points in Saturday’s win and also had nine rebounds, a pair of steals and a pair of blocks.

Three other Humboldt players finished in double digits in scoring, including Marley Johnson (11 points), Sara Ahmadpour (10) and Madison Rubino (10).

Rubino also had nine rebounds.

“We had four players in double figures and we are a much better team when we have that type of balance in our scoring,” Bento-Jackson added.

The Jacks will try to continue their winning ways when they play at San Bernardino on Thursday and at Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday.

The Cal Poly Humboldt men, meanwhile, lost to Cal State East Bay 83-68 on Saturday and dropped to 1-14 in conference and 4-16 overall.
